Takeaways from the Science of Blogging Webcast

Last week, I participated in Dan Zarrella’s webcast on the Science of Blogging (#blogsci). Great content, as usual. If you aren’t following Dan on Twitter, you should be! Here are my takeaways:

  • Guest posting is a key tactic for driving traffic. Guest-post on other people’s blogs.
  • Dan used a smart technique in his webcast. He created takeaway slides, each with a succinct message that was ideal for sharing, one for each key point from his presentation and interspersed throughout the presentation.

What do people want in blogs:

  • Relevance is everything. People read and share content that is relevant to them/their network.
  • People want the unique insights of a given blogger, but don’t want to hear the blogger talk about himself, self-promote, or cover mundane information. People follow a blogger because of that person’s voice, insights, style. But they want the information that person provides, not to hear the person talk about themselves.
